Vulnerable to One
One of the hardest things to do, I think, is to open yourself up to someone completely. I don’t mean just share your life with, I mean truly open up yourself completely. The way that person can know everything about you, top to bottom, in and out, from the shallowest wants to the deep desires making you get up each morning.
Why is it so hard? Why does it have to be damn near impossible to really open up?
My thoughts on it is that it’s a lot safer to spread your vulnerabilities around than to let one person have access to all of them. It feels safer to talk about your more superficial things with your lover(s), and then to talk about your emotions to other people. If you spread your vulnerabilities around, then if one person goes bad and hurts you, then you still have something to hold onto. But if it’s all there to one person, then that person has so much power and so much control, it’s damn near impossible to even think about.
Fuck if I know which to choose though. It depends.
